Today, October 2nd, is
Name Your Car Day. As a family, we have had many cars over the years. I don't remember any names per se given to those cars. It was always "the Packard" or "the Charger". For me, my first beloved car was "the Cuda". A 1966 Plymouth Barracuda with a glass back window. I LOVED that car!! I wrote briefly about her in
Cars - 52 Weeks of Personal Genealogy & History. Here's a photo:

My current car is a 1997 Nissan Sentra. Not the same mystique as my Cuda but it's MINE! I have nicknamed her "Lily" since it is supposedly a white car. Right now she's "Dirty Lily". I like to say that it's not dirt on her but a "protective coating"!! I guess before it gets cold here I should give her a bath! Here's a photo of the car during one of our lovely snow falls. Can you see her?

My current "car" is actually an SUV. A 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe named "Betsy." She got that name because it's a bronze color with black accents, both inside and out. The day after I bought it, I got dressed and went to work like any other day, but during my drive I realized that my outfit matched my car - which reminded me of Madeline Khan's character in Young Frankenstein (the one who had a car that matched every outfit) whose name was Elizabeth, so I named her Betsy.
ReplyDeleteI also subscribe to the "protective coating" theory, which is why I bought a dirt-colored car. :)
Madeline Khan was great in everything she did! I remember the rubbing elbows to say goodbye!
DeleteAnd my next car will NOT be white I can tell you that now!!
My 1st Car was a Vega, it was white. I still drive a white car now a Ford Edge This was Great!
ReplyDeleteOne of my high school friends had a Chevy Vega. Those were good cars too!!
DeleteI ordered a '65 Cuda Formula S- Great Car! I traded it in 9 months later when it hit 50,000 miles (Yes- I did a *LOT* of driving that year!).
ReplyDeleteNice! Don't know about you but I LOVE to have my Cuda back!!!
